This A level course has been designed to enable students to develop their linguistic skills alongside their understanding of the culture and society of the countries where Spanish is spoken.

What will I learn?

During this course you will develop knowledge and understanding of themes relating to the culture and society of countries where Spanish is spoken, as well as developing your language skills. We using authentic spoken and written sources in Spanish, which foster a range of transferable skills including communication, critical thinking, research skills and creativity, which are valuable to the individual and society.

The subject content includes the following themes;

  • Aspects of Hispanic society
  • Artistic culture in the Hispanic world
  • Multiculturalism in Hispanic society
  • Aspects of political life in Hispanic society
  • Literary texts and films.

How is it assessed?

A level Spanish is a linear qualification, with all assessments taking place at the end of the 2 year course.

There are 3 exams in total.

Exam 1 is a listening, reading and writing paper. The duration of this exam is 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Exam 2 is a writing paper. The duration of this exam is 2 hours.

Exam 3 is a speaking exam. The duration of this exam is 21-23 minutes.
