Africa Oye Workshop

Last week, Year 7 pupils took part in a workshop day hosted by Africa Oye, a well know organisation in Liverpool that hosts an annual festival every year in Sefton Park.

The day started with 30 Year Seven pupils having a showcase by Muntu an African musician from Cameroon. Muntu played ‘Sour’ Blues music to the pupils and shared details of his career.

Later on during the session Muntu invited the pupils to make music with him. Using his guitar, a looping pedal and a range of percussion instruments the pupils made their own composition and finished the day by improvising. One pupil reported ‘They have never heard rhythms like this before’.

The experience was enjoyed by all pupils and it was fantastic to welcome such a diverse performer and composer to North Liverpool Academy.
