Build My Future Destination Seminar

On Thursday, North Liverpool Academy current and prospective Sixth Form students participated in a Destination Seminar facilitated by the Northern Schools Trust and the University of Liverpool. The purpose of the event was to engage students with employers from industry growth sectors in the Liverpool City region, and introduce them to the skills, attributes and experience they need to access and flourish in the world of work. Students, along with eight employers from a range of industries participated in a Career Speed Networking session, including representatives from the Royal Liverpool Hospital, Pro Lab Diagnostics and the Royal Court theatre.

Also in attendance were graduates from the University of Sheffield who shared their experiences of moving away to university. Nigel Ward, CEO of the Northern Schools Trust and Professor David Hornby were on hand to take questions from students. All of the employers paid tribute to the high levels of engagement demonstrated by students.

Rosie Collister, Health Care student said: “Gaining first hand advice from someone in the role I aspire to (nursing) was really useful, and I have since secured a placement at the Royal Liverpool Hospital as a result of my participation”.

Yorgie Chrisulis, Business and Economics student also said: “Meeting the local councillor for the Mossley Hill ward was invaluable as she has inspired in me an interest in politics which I am now looking to study at University. I have also secured a placement with the Charity Commission to further my interest in this field”.

We look forward to making this an annual event, and further diversifying the participantion to reflect the full range of opportunities in the City region.
