Full house for The Studio & DEN Showcase 2018!

On Thursday 28th of June, The Studio hosted their end of year Studio & DEN Showcase.

Lead by The Studio’s current sixth form cohort, the event celebrated the project work of hundreds of Studio pupils and featured the individual works of students from primarily sixth form, but also year 11

Each sector was allocated a space and visitors were able to explore the various zones including our Digital Showcase room in the LRC and ground floor stalls on entrance. These featured interactive projects (from student publications, platform games and even environmental installations.)
Visitors could also recharge with refreshments and our students’ enterprising ‘fair trade chocolate shop.

The dance hall was home to our Film Showcase and also featured art, graphics and photography to boot. The showcase was accompanied by live music from our Studio band featuring students from upper and lower sixth.

Hosted from 4.30 – 6pm, the event was an exciting and unique opportunity for students to present their finalised projects to not only peers, friends and family, but notably to a whole host of industry experts, as visitors toured the building and networked with our teams of young people.

From stunning fine art pieces and VR fitness apps to intriguing short films and fully executed games designs – The Showcase had it all!

Students pitched their project ideas to influencers from their fields of interest and demonstrated (through their finalised projects) how they would bring their ideas to life.

Industry visitors included Sony, GirlGeeks, FACT, Shop Direct, LJMU, Lucid Games and many more.

Chelsea Slater of Girl Geeks commented:

“I loved speaking to the students about their respective projects – their skills are next level! There was such a varied range of work, from illustration, programming for Alexa, games development, sound engineering & much much more. I’d employ them all if I could!”

Guests also had the opportunity to see some live art during their visit in the form of a work-in-progress indoor art mural! Created by architect and illustrator Saif Kattan, the artwork spans The Studio corridor wall and the piece metaphorically depicts dreams, memories and experiences through intricate line-work. The mural is progressing each day as students add to it, and the piece will feature as an ongoing participatory art project for residents of The Studio.

Overall, the Showcase was a testament to how far our students have come during their time here at the Studio, and the calibre of work on show was truly outstanding. Congratulations to all involved!
