On Friday 24th April The Studio welcomed STEAMco to Liverpool for a series of creativity seminars and workshops.
The launch event invited four local primary schools to attend a series of sessions focusing on topics ranging from robotics and aquaponics, to storytelling and coding, whilst teachers and parents were invited to a series of education seminars. STEAMco welcomed Professor Guy Claxton into the UTC to give a seminar focused on the importance of building learning power, touching on extracts from his new book ‘Educating Ruby’. Professor Claxton also hosted a workshop for the primary school attendees.
Primary school students from Four Oaks, Kensington Primary, Monksdown Primary and St Vincent were hosted in The Studio’s programming suite by Learning Coach for Computing Mr Sillitoe. Students as young as 8 were invited to take part in the coding sessions to learn the coding language ‘Scratch’.
STEAM Co. co-founder Nick Corston is an ambassador for creativity in education and hosted the day. He said:
