Wheels Extreme Club Takes Off

November saw the beginning of Wheels Extreme at North Liverpool Academy – an alternative sports provision aimed at improving the lives of young people through rollerblading, scooter riding, BMXing and skate-boarding.

Alex, a Year 7 blogger, went along to see what it’s all about:

“On Wednesday I went to scooter club to get more of an insight for all our readers. In the club you can ride a scooter or a BMX bike and it’s open to both boys and girls.

All safety gear is provided, so you don’t have to worry about falling and hurting yourself.

I spoke with one of the students participating and he said that he likes to ride bikes and enjoys the club because he doesn’t have access to a bike at home. We are hoping the club will push more female students to pursue careers in sport.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this blog and hope to see you at next week’s scooter and BMX Club!”

The club is only open for Year 7 students and will be running up until Christmas. Mr Metcalf speaks about why he set it up:

“The club is part of the legacy of the Sky Sports Living for Sport project. It has been established to improve the confidence of our students and allow them to make new friends – something that is really important when you come to a new school. The club is running really well, some students have learnt to ride a bike, others are trying out new tricks and everyone is having great fun!”

Scooter club runs every Wednesday until Christmas – see Mr Metcalf for details.
