Another purposeful and productive week at NLA has come to an end. This week has seen NLA’s Student Council take the lead on making our school a green space, multiple events for our high-flying Scholars and even, stolen frogs. Thank you for supporting our Covid-19 measures. By wearing masks, we have managed to keep the number of positive cases to a minimum and have not needed to send groups of students home. We have shown that we are a school which looks after each other and I am very proud of this. As restrictions ease, we will embark on many more trips and activities which will enrich your child’s learning experience. We are prepared with PPE and spare LFT tests in case another spike in cases were to happen.

Dates for Next Week

  • Wednesday 26th January – Into University Sessions will cover transferable skills and career possibilities with Year 9 and entrepreneurship with Year 10 students.

Highlights from this Week:

Eco Committee Meeting
On Thursday, the Student Council held NLA’s very first Eco-Committee meeting. We are following the Eco-Schools agenda and hope to gain our green flag award this year. Students have completed an audit of the school to see how eco-friendly we are. The results were fed back to the committee and next steps decided.

Scholars KS3 Event
Year 7, 8 and 9 Scholars attended a virtual presentation from the University of Liverpool about Latin and Classical studies. Scholars will soon begin their studies of these subjects at NLA.

Virtual Careers Event with Sony
Year 9 Scholars participated in a virtual careers workshop this week. The workshop was delivered by Ste Cotrill from Sony who showcased careers and routes into the gaming industry.

Science CSI
The Year 9 NLA CSI team started their first mock forensic investigation this week, “The frogs have been stolen from the biology lab”. Using the skills learned last term they are going to analyse the evidence collected from the scene of the crime to identify the culprit from four suspects.
