OCR DIPLOMA/ EXTENDED CERTIFICATE IN SPORT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Sports Pathway students study the OCR Technical Award in Sport and Physical Activity Diploma (dual award). This is a wide-ranging course covering everything from anatomy, coaching and leadership, sports organisation and development to sports psychology and safety, performance analysis, event organisation and sports injuries and rehabilitation.

Our Sixth Form also offers the Extended Certificate in Sport (equivalent to one A-level), while you’ll have the opportunity to add the Activity Leadership NVQ Level 2 to enhance your CV and supplement your work on the pathway.

What will I learn?

Our qualifications aim to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills of the essentials of Sport and Physical Activity. You will gain an insight into the Sport and Physical Activity industry. You will demonstrate your understanding through a wide range of centre assessed units with practical and wider project-based assessment opportunities, as well as examined units. Some of the mandatory units you will study are: Body systems and the effects of physical activity, Sports coaching and activity leadership, Performance analysis in sport and exercise, Sport injuries and rehabilitation and many more.

How is it assessed?

You will have centre assessed units where we will assess you through; written work, presentations and practical assessments. You will also sit external examinations as part of this course.

Next steps

You will develop a broad knowledge, understanding and practical skills essential in the world of Sport and Physical Activity.

Many of our students have gone on the University to study; Sports Coaching, Sports Science, Sports Development, PE teaching and many more. We have also had students go straight into Sports Coaching apprenticeship’s. There are lots of exciting sports careers which this course can propel your towards, to name a few; Sports analysts, Sports coach, Personal trainer, Specialist sports coach, PE teaching, Nutritionist, Sport Journalist, Sports presenter, Sports research scientist and so many more.
