What happens at the 1:1 applicant advice meetings?

Moving to 6th Form is an exciting step into your future, our main concern is that all our students have the support and advice they need to make the right course choices for your 6th Form study.

While lots is familiar about 6th Form, there are differences from high school, our meeting will give you the chance to ask questions and find out more. The meeting will be with one of our specialist 6th Form team; they’ll ask you about your ambitions for the future and check you’re application includes the courses required to progress to your desired university course or profession.

We’ll also discuss our Ambitions Programmes and outline the professional work experience, industry placements and enrichment opportunities in 6th Form that would enhance your future progression. We really value spending time getting to know you, and answering your questions, so that we can provide you with the qualifications and experiences to thrive when you join NLA 6th Form.

Who can apply to join NLA 6th Form?

Any student currently studying GCSE qualifications in Y11 at any school in the UK.

Can I look around NLA 6th Form before I apply?

We would love to welcome as many applicants from across the city to take a tour of NLA 6th Form at our Open Evenings. Currently COVID19 restrictions mean this might not be possible for individuals, so we also have a series of short videos to give you a feel of the facilities and people here.

I have a question, who do I ask?

We’ve tried to think of all the possible questions you might have as you apply to NLA 6th Form, so check the website and prospectus first. If you, or your parents, can’t find the answer you need, we’d love to hear from you; email our Head of 6th Form Mr Johnston here

What are the entry criteria for NLA 6th Form?

Our basic entry criteria is Grade 4 in GCSE English Language and Maths, however we have subject specific entry criteria for each of our courses published on this website.

Do you offer Level 2  qualifications?

No, Level 2 is equivalent to GCSE. All the courses we offer are Level 3 qualifications (A-level or equivalent), as these are what you’ll require to progress to university, Higher Apprenticeships (Level 4) and professional employment. If you achieve a grade 3 in either English or Maths at GCSE, providing you have at least a grade 4 in the other (English/Maths) and have met all other subject specific entry criteria for your chosen courses you would still be eligible for an offer of a level 3 qualification that includes a resit programme for the English or Maths GCSE in which you did not achieve a standard passing grade of 4.

Can I apply to more than one 6th Form provider?

Yes, we encourage all students to look at the provision offered by institutions across the city to find the right one for you. Most students will apply to two or three colleges, as long as you’ve made an application to NLA 6th Form your place will be guaranteed, allowing you to make a final decision on GCSE results day.
