NLA now has just over half of its community of students being students who are EAL. We have a team of four English as Additional Language Learning Support Assistants who are led by our EAL Coordinator, Miss Yorke.
They have a very well-resourced base in the school in which they can provide the appropriate support for our EAL students to access the curriculum. This support can include some sessions in the EAL base, providing students with basic strategies for learning as well as in-class support in lessons.
As well as developing language skills, the EAL team ensure that we recognise and celebrate the diversity and culture of our students to be a fully inclusive school.
The EAL team endeavour to create and foster strong relationships with both students and parents, and as a result, NLA have been working in close partnership for a number of years with the University of Liverpool. The collaboration of NLA and the University of Liverpool means that we are able to deliver free, after-school English lessons to parents of our EAL pupils. Sessions run twice a week between January and March, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm-5:30pm.
Should you require any more information regarding EAL at North Liverpool Academy, please contact the EAL Coordinator, Miss Yorke, on yorke.a@nla.uk.com
Free EAL Parental Lessons
North Liverpool Academy, in collaboration with the University of Liverpool, is offering free English as an Additional Language (EAL) lessons for parents. This nine-week course runs from January to March and is delivered by master's students studying TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
Sessions take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm in the NLA library, focusing on developing conversational skills, including pronunciation and vocabulary. The programme is available to all school parents in our community, and new participants are welcome to join at any time.
