NLA Summer School 2024

NLA Summer School 2024: 6 weeks of Learning, Fun, and Friendship

The NLA Summer School 2024 has been an exciting journey filled with activities that have enriched our new Year 7 students' transition experience. The transition workshops provided a safe space for students to build friendships, gain confidence, and address any concerns through engaging games and activities.

In the realm of sports, students participated in a wide array of multi-sport activities, from rounders and cricket to trampolining, badminton, football, basketball, and dance. These sessions were not just about physical fitness but also about forming new friendships and enjoying the sunny days together.

The SAFE I AM boxing and fitness sessions focused on developing mental fitness, helping students build and maintain positive relationships, and manage emotions. Through mobility training, fitness routines, and pad work, students worked on self-awareness, self-regulation, and building positive habits that will benefit them in the long run.

A particularly memorable activity was the Discover Dissections event, where students explored the intricacies of biology by dissecting a heart, eye, respiratory system, and even a sheep’s head. This hands-on experience provided them with a deeper understanding of anatomy and scientific principles.

The Whizz Bang Olympics sessions were another highlight, where our budding scientists created rainbows in test tubes, magnetic slime, and electromagnets, and even launched their own rocket-propelled javelins. These activities ignited a passion for science, allowing students to explore and experiment in a fun and creative way.

The adventure didn’t stop there. Students also enjoyed a trip to Wroxeter, diving into history and learning about the Roman heritage of the area. This was a fun and engaging day where the history of the site ignited the interest of our future historians.

There was also a fun-filled day at the beach, where students relaxed, played, and soaked up the summer sun.

But the excitement didn’t stop there! Here’s a glimpse of the activities that our students have recently enjoyed:

  • Board Games: Encouraging strategic thinking and friendly competition.

  • Jewellery Making: A creative workshop where students crafted unique pieces of art.

  • Robotics: Hands-on sessions where students built and programmed their own robots.

  • Just Dance and Kareoke: Fun filled afternoon with dance competitions to win prizes.

  • Ready Steady Cook!: A fun culinary challenge where students whipped up delicious dishes.

  • Rivington Pike Wellbeing Walk: A rejuvenating walk promoting physical and mental wellness.

  • Debate Camp: Developing critical thinking and public speaking skills through structured debates.

  • Walking Tour of Liverpool: Exploring the rich history and culture of their city.

NLA’s Summer School 2024 has truly been a comprehensive program, offering students a blend of learning, creativity, and fun. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to explore, discover, and grow together this summer!
